NEW QLD training courses are now available at AHST!
AHST have adopted the new Community Services & Health Industry Skills Council (CSHISC)
recently released national first aid training standards. This supports the Federal initiative of having
a consistant standard of first aid.
Senior First Aid has been replaced by Apply First Aid and CPR has been replaced by Perform CPR.
Both courses have all new paperwork and this includes the 1 day workbook course.

Apply First Aid
A comprehensive yet simple courses for everyday emergency situations. Apply First Aid is the minimum qualification required by Workplace Health & Safety Legislation for the workplace first aider and is invaluable for individuals in the home situation.
Course Content
- Assess the scene of an incident
- Conduct primary assessment of the casualty
- Safety (CPR & DRABCD)
- Provide basic life support for adult, child and infant (Heart attack, stroke, asthma etc)
- Management of external and internal bleeding
- Management of wounds
- Management of sprains, strains, dislocations and fractures
- Management of environmental conditions, thermal and other burns
- Management of medical emergencies
- Management of bites and stings
| Duration: | 16 hours. Alternatively this is available as a workbook course. It requires a precourse workbook to be completed prior to an 8 hour trainig session. This is a great option for companies or individuals with little time. |

| Who Should Attend: | Persons who require First Aid training or accredited training to comply with OH&S (First Aid) Regulations |
| Prerequisite: | Participants must be 14 years or older. Participants under 14 years must have permission to attend from a parent or guardian. |
| Assessment: | Progressive assessment of the competencies will be conducted throughout the course. |
| Statement of Attainment: | On successful completion of the course, the participant will receive a Statement of Attainment, which is valid for three years. As per the Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines, AHST recommends that the resuscitation module be recertified annually. |

Apply First Aid Recertification
This course is offered to participants whose Apply First Aid or Senior First Aid qualification is due to expire. This course will
refresh your knowledge and skills in first aid and update you on changes that have taken place since you did your
Apply First Aid or Senior First Aid course.
Course Content

- Conduct primary assessment of the casualty
- Safety (CPR & DRABCD)
- Provide basic life support for adult, child and infant (Heart attack,stroke,asthma etc.)
- Management of external and internal bleeding
- Management of wounds

- Management of environmental conditions, thermal burns and other burns
- Management of medical emergencies
- Management of bites and stings

| Who Should Attend: | Those who have a current Senior First Aid Certificate which is approaching its expiry date (we suggest you do this within 3 months of expiration). |

Perform CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation)
This course will give participants the confidence to manage sick or injured persons using the principles of basic First Aid. It provides the knowledge and skills required to maintain life for an unconscious casualty until medical help arrives. This is a practical course with a 60% hands-on component, supported by basic theory without the mediacal jargon.

- Identify priorities of management DRABCD
- Management of an unconscious casualty
- Expired air resuscitation on an adult, child and baby
- Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation on an adult, child and infant
- Management of an obstructed airway
- Management of a near drowning casualty
- Recognition and management of shock

Proved Basic Emergency Life Support
This course will provide participants with competencies suitable for the provision of appropriate basic first aid management to casualties in given environments.

Caring for kids (Senior First Aid)
A comprehensive yet simple course for parents, teachers or anyone that works in the child care industry.
This course teaches all the necessary knowledge and skills to manage everyday emergency situations.
This course is taught as per the Senior First Aid course but the instructor will spend extra time specifically focused on practices and common issues relating to Children.

- Conduct primary assessment of the casualty
- Safety (CPR & DRABCD)
- Provide basic life support for adult, child and infant (Heart attack, stroke, asthma ect)
- Management of external and internal bleeding
- Management of wounds

This course is taught as per the Apply First Aid course but the instructor will spend extra time specifically focused on practices and common issues relating to elderly persons.
